About Us

ICA EHIO (Empowerment for Human Involvement Organization) is located in Khujand, in northern Tajikistan. Since the collapse of the Soviet economic system, Tajikistan has struggled with poverty and disintegrating infrastructure. This was exacerbated by the devastating Civil War during the 1990s. The work of ICA EHIO contributes to the hard work of rebuilding our country into the 21st century. In an era of peace within Tajikistan, the year 2001 bore witness to Tajikistan's 10th year of Independence, as well as the birth of ICA EHIO.

ICA EHIO is a non-governmental, not-for-profit, non-political, voluntary organization registered with the Department of Justice of Khujand city, Tajikistan (Certificate of registration #36, 19 October 2001).

The aim of ICA EHIO is to put human beings at the center of development. ICA EHIO achieves its aim through the following objectives:

  • Promote the philosophy of participation;
  • Train people in participation methods;
  • Incorporate participation into development work; and
  • Promote youth as a valuable resource and active participant in community life.

In order to implement its aim and objectives, ICA: EHIO is engaged in the following areas of activity:

  • Training services to individuals and organizations in Technology of Participation;
  • Facilitation services, including: strategic planning meetings, action planning, community meetings, monitoring and evaluation, and group discussions; and
  • Engagement in social development projects that promote participation and empower people to help themselves.
