ICAI Board Member Form

My member ICA & role

I am an Associate and former Chief Executive of ICA:UK.

My location

I am based in London in the UK.

About my ICAI Board role

The key responsibilities of the ICAI President are to provide leadership for the Board and the membership, to ensure effective governance of ICAI, to hold the Board accountable to the membership decisions of the General Assembly, and to support, sustain and demonstrate consensus based participatory process and live into the values and mission of ICA.

About me

I have been involved with ICA in a variety of volunteer and paid role for most of my career. I began as an international volunteer with ICA India in 1986-87, and then spent six years on the staff of ICA MENA in Egypt after joining as an international volunteer in 1989. I then spent 16 years with ICA:UK in Manchester, stepping down as Chief Executive in 2012. I also served on the Board of ICAI from 1998-2006, as Europe Vice President and then as Treasurer.

Now I work freelance as a facilitator, trainer and consultant, using what I have learned with ICA to help groups, teams and partnerships work more effectively together to bring about lasting change. What drives me is my passion and commitment to make a positive difference in the world, and to support and enable others to do so as well.

Since 1998 I have also been involved with the International Association of Facilitators (IAF). In 2012 I completed a term as Chair, after four years on the IAF Board. I have also served as a Trustee of Focus charity and as a Director of Work for Change, and on the committee of Quaker Congo Partnership. I hold a BA in Business Studies from Portsmouth University and an MA in Development Administration and Management from Manchester University’s IDPM.

I work from home in central London, where I live with my husband. As well as my work, I enjoy travel, music and culture, heritage and countryside, and reading.

My hopes and aspirations for the role

I was elected in 2012 to a four year term on the ICAI Board, from 2013-16. In addition to convening monthly Board meetings and six-monthly General Assemblies, I hope to support the regional Vice-Presidents to facilitate peer-to-peer networking and support among members by online & face-to-face gatherings and by means of the new website; to support the Treasurer and Secretary to maintain and grow the membership to include all ICAs and those partners that they nominate; to support the Winds & Waves team to develop the magazine and integrate it to the website; to support the global ToP working group to support member implementation of the new ToP policy; and to support the 2016 Global Conference working group to partner with Initiatives of Change to convene a global conference in Caux in August 2016.
